Nuno's '73 T140

I've been helping Nuno get his T140 going. It wasn't idling. Fixed a stripped spark plug hole, and new plugs, torqued the head, valve adjustment, and free'd the clutch. He was smart and got new Amal Premieres as well. Today was the day she started right up!

Jewelry

Got the side cover painted up on the CB750, and added a 750 badge. Also a nice piece of jewelry under the headlight. Put the XS seat back on to get an idea of how it will look. I want to splurge and get a leather covered stock seat pan, something to mimic an old BSA hump seat.

Screening Meemies

I lost one of my screened velocity stacks on a ride. I wanted a set of shorter screened ones but didn't have $50, so I made my own out of the open short stacks that came with my new carbs. Easy peezy.

Hee Haul

I can't afford a 1960 GMC Short bed, but I was able to swing a nice 1990 made in Alabama heavy duty trailer at last. Dump runs, lumber runs, and motorcycle hauling is now possible again. And in a few more years taking our dirt bikes to ride with Max!

Bunch o' noodles

Life has been busy with life. Sicknesses, family visits, and general goings-ons. I managed to spend 8 hours on the CB750 and do a from-scratch wiring job using supposedly working regulator and rectifier and alternator. 4 2-hour nights of sucking in flux fumes and she is done. New wiring, brackets, battery, lights, switches, and AGM battery.



She started up right away but wasn't charging. It was a simple ground issue. I also made a temporary side cover out of some aluminum which I'll be shaping some more and painting black. Temporary as in probably permanent, but the intention is to get a hammer and bag and make a nice form fitting one out of sheet metal. I also need to make a nice front brake stay. I'm debating making a front fender with struts to mimic the stock look. I might bob the rear fender. And I want to slim down the seat with some custom upholstery. Also the square-profile front tire is a little hard to maneuver. I really need a 4-carb sync. I used to have one and let it be borrowed. Now I don't have one anymore. Baby steps. Low buck as I can get away with.

70 Year On A 40 Year Old

My folks are visiting from Ohio, they drove 2300 miles because my dad is not a fan of airlines. They ride on a Goldwing trike (and pretty hardcore riders at that) pretty much because my dad's hip can't handle a 2-wheeler anymore, so the fact this happened today is amazing. He hopped on my XS and took right to it. He couldn't kick it, but that's the only issue and we cruised into the east bay countryside for a beautiful warm sunny day. And then he took a 2 hour nap.

I only have 2 of the 3, but I figure you need the Trifecta to fully represent. Of course there's a handful of other makes I'd gladly put in my stable. Here's hoping for some old dude to stop me at a gas station and talk about his barn full of pre-units.

Next in line

Switching gears, time to get this bad mama-jamma wired. I spent a few bucks on some cloth wire (thanks dear!) and get to spend the next who-knows-how long doing a basic wiring job, installing the Charlie's Place Electronic Ignition, a nice front brake stay, and a few other tweaks. Then it should be ready to roll. No rush on this one. Eventually a nice custom seat. This bike has been with me for 8 years. I bought it to ride 2-up with Lori. Of course, as soon as I got it I tore it apart and it's taken this long to get back to this point. I still remember draining the sewage water out of the forks. A search for CB750 on this blog shows the many trials and tribulations.

Roll for Ted

I got my brake stay fixed (I hope) and that means I can ride to Ted's service tomorrow. Ted never got to see the Triumph running, but he rooted me on for years. He always called my garage "the place where bikes go to die." His wasn't much different. I guess if this cracks again, I'll rethink my brake stay design. Everyone told me it would bend in the center. Well it lasted a 1000 miles and cracked at the bolt on the brake plate. So take that.
