Wilde One

I bartered for this helmet a while ago but don't really know too much about it. It's by the Wilde company, who had been making helmets since at least World War I in Germany, including for the Nazis. I believe this helmet is from the '50's, maybe even '40's, a resin-based shell with leather internals and straps. It's also just a little too small for my bean head.

Lesson 2

We went back to Shoreline Park for another lesson. This time I told her just go out on the streets and come back every few minutes. Every few minutes Lori returned with a big smile on her face. She's ready. I watched her stops and take offs, very smooth. As soon as we can figure out a way to both go out and ride we will, but I'm also going to start looking for some other East Bay/Oakland female riders for her to ride with.

After I finish the pre-unit the next one is going be more down and dirty, for rippin' around street and dirt. I have a vision of going dirt riding with max in a few years and I want something I can take out with him. Sort of a cross between a swing-arm bobber and desert racer.

Nothin' major but it makes me happy

I'm kind of in a holding pattern with the Triumph. Wes has the entire bottom end and Pops has the oil tank.
The gum rubber grips just weren't doing it for me so I put on a pair of classic Amals, much better.

I order my new UK made header pipes, they'll be here soon...

Also, I was running the brake rod horizontal, on the bottom, but decided to run it the stock way.
I like this look much better, just required the purchase of a new spring.

Lots of little minor things to do but they all require time away from bambino.

Best Bar In America

This could be good.

Tiburon

A family trip to Tiburon. It reminds me that out of Oakland, the rest of the Bay isn't a shithole... as long as affluence is present.

But as soon as we got back to Oakland...

Sittin' on the tank

There was a horrible news story yesterday about a toddler being killed riding with his father without a helmet. The rider was completely irresponsible and it's a very sad story. Many people joined a lynch mob stating anyone that does this needs to be put in jail... but I can't help but think and remember a simpler time when this was acceptable, and under the right responsible adult, fairly safe. I'm not stating I'd be doing wheelies with Max with no helmet on, but I definitely plan on putting him a sidecar at 3, and on the back of the bike as soon as he can. I found this video, sort of reminds me of parts of my youth. My dad would ride me to me pee-wee baseball games all the time.

Dream Girl

Saturday was the day, at long last. Lori finally rode her Dream for the first time. It had been a few years since she rode, and a bit of anxiety, but she got over that quickly and handled it like a natural. The bike is much better suited to her than the CB450. The fact she had a motorcycle dream last night tells me something may have snapped in her brain and the sickness is BEGINNING. A few more practice days and she's ready for surface streets. The goal is to have her ride the 49 Mile Ride with me in October.

Period Correct

I bought some period correct 29 cent white felt at Michael's yesterday and cut out the Triumph logo to sew on the Dehen sweater. What a pain in the butthole! Now to have Lori show me some sewing skills. I chose the '34-'36 era logo for it's roundness (make cutting the felt easier) but still characteristically the Triumph logo we all know.

Speaking of clothing, I am lusting after the Mister Freedom Mulholland Master jacket, only $900! Only...

For the thrifty... the Barbour International is only half that... only...

Today I learned...

While not an exact copy, the Triumph iron-on Lori got me for my birthday is definitely influenced by Ed Roth's.

On a steel chrome rim I ride...

My pre-unit is finally, officially, at long last... a roller. I got the Bultaco hub laced up to a steel chrome rim by Matt at Speedandsport.com.

Because the Bultaco spokes are larger than a standard spoke, the spoke holes on the rim needed to be enlarged, which leaves a raw edge. What I've done a few times in the past is heat the rim up nice and hot and spray some paint in each spoke nut. The idea is the paint creaps into the crevices and seals up potential rust spots.

It's getting there, I just need the part that goes VRROOOOM.

Honda Four Mitosis

And then there was 2. A good value on a "should be running" CB750 came up yesterday. I said I would never own another Four, and certainly not another one of these beasts, but the value was too powerful to let go. I still hate 4 carburetors. I shall name her Franny. First bike I've ever owned that formally belonged to someone I know (I bought it off someone who bought it from him). After a few other projects get completed, going to get this one running, and put the motor and exhaust on my other '76 750. Somewhere down the line this 2nd 750 will be another complete project. I'm still running off of some Desoto sale fumes so I'm not too horribly irresponsible. Lori thinks I'm crazy, I know I am. It's a sickness.
